The cooperation between the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety and the Republic of Finland

Working contacts with Finnish organizations have continued in recent years: continuous exchange of information, invitations to events, preparation of project proposals.

The Committee has established stable business contacts with ministries, city and town administrations, enterprises and organizations of Finland.

In 2019, a number of specialized working meetings were held on environmental education of the population, cooperation in the field of climate change and adaptation to climate change, management of specially protected natural areas, protection and use of wildlife, more intensive cooperation to implement the recommendations of HELCOM, and updating the Baltic Sea Action Plan.

The specialists of the Committee and those from various regions of Finland take an active part in international environmental events.

In February 2019, representatives of the Committee took part in the seminar "Combating Environmental Crimes" organized by the Consulate General of Finland in Saint Petersburg. Russian and Finnish experts discussed the investigation of environmental crimes and improvement of their detection in both countries, as well as the experience of interdepartmental cooperation.

In March 2019, at the XIX International Forum Ecology of Big City, our Finnish colleagues presented children's environmental interactive section run by volunteer environmentalists from Finland (Finnish volunteer environmental conservation organization Luonto-Liitto).

In June 2019, representatives of the administration of Lahti and the SYKLI Environmental School of Finland took part in the round table discussion "Environmental education and the formation of environmental culture of the population" held as part of SPIEF'19.

Together with partner organizations, project proposals were prepared and accepted for financing within the framework of the cross-border cooperation program "Russia and South-Eastern Finland":

- The improvement of adaptive capacity in water supply network management (RAINMAN) with the participation of the Geological Survey of Finland, the towns of Mikkeli, Lahti, the Environmental Service of the Helsinki region, Voeikov Main Geophysical Observatory, FSBI State Hydrological Institute, SUE Vodokanal of Saint Petersburg.

The purpose of the project is to address the impact of climate change and urban development on water resources. It is planned to develop practical solutions for towns/cities and municipalities aimed at taking into account the climate factors in water resources management.

- The impact of Krasny Bor, a hazardous waste landfill, on the environment (EnviTox) was performed with the participation of SGUE Mineral, the Geological Survey of Finland, the University of Applied Sciences of South-Eastern Finland, the Institute of Lymnology of RAS.

The main goal of the project is to develop guidelines for creating a favorable environment near the territory of the Krasny Bor landfill and to collect the most up-to-date information on the state of the environment in the area. The state of the environment (water, soil, air) near the landfill will be examined.

- The history and the future of natural stone in architecture: a bridge discussion between South-Eastern Finland and Russia (NaStA) in partnership with the Geological Survey of Finland and the SGUE Mineral.

The goal of the project is to determine the mineral resource base located in Finland, Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region to supply materials for the restoration of historical buildings of Saint Petersburg and the cities of south-eastern Finland. The project is important both from the point of view of resource management and from the point of view of cultural heritage preservation.

Cooperation with Finnish partners continues in the regular course of business.
